Short vita

Yutaka Matsuo is a professor at Graduate School of Engineering, the University of Tokyo. He received his BS, MS, and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Tokyo in 1997, 1999, and 2002. He joined National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST) from 2002 to 2007. He specializes in deep learning and web mining in the field of artificial intelligence.

He is one of the prominent researchers in the field of artificial intelligence in Japan. He has authored 100+ journal papers and 200+ international conference papers. He received the Best Paper Award from Japanese Society for Artificial Intelligence (JSAI) in 2002, and Nagao Special Researcher Award from Information Processing Society of Japan (IPSJ) in 2008. He served as Editor-in-Chief of the Japanese Society for Artificial Intelligence from 2012 to 2014. In 2005, he spent two years at the Center for the Study of Language and Information (CSLI) at Stanford University.
